LIGHTNING WINS TOURNEY TITLE
The boys’ 10-and-under fourth-grade team from the Newport Lightning Basketball Club won the championship of the Swoosh Summer Classic last weekend in Anaheim.
The Lightning beat the Triple Threat club, 39-34, in the final. Newport led at halftime, 28-19, and never looked back. Connor Kincaid paced the Lightning with 14 points with three three-pointers and added four steals. Parker Kanne added six points and two steals, while Chase Garbers pulled down eight rebounds and had three steals. Timothy Donald and Luke Vafiadis played tough defense throughout holding the leading scorers for Triple Threat scoreless in the final minutes.
Ben Coffman, Will Ueberroth, Sachin Gokhale and Shan Dharod played key minutes all weekend.
